Litsea, Organic: China (Litsea cubeba)

China is one of the leading countries that exports large amounts of adulterated essential oils. Most healers wishing to purchase therapeutic essential oils will avoid all oils from China unless they have a highly reliable source. The Litsea tree, also known as May Chang, is an evergreen that is native to China. Most Litsea that is exported comes from large conventional plantations but there are a few small villages that also wild harvest berries for the oil. The fruit is distilled to extract the spicy lemony fragrant therapeutic oil. The tree has been used historically for its medicinal properties and as a spice.

This oil is similar to Lemongrass with being high in Aldehydes and both having the main chemical of Geranial in highly abundant amounts.

Primary Usage: Skin problems (blemishes, acne, dermatitis, oily skin and hair),fungal infections (ringworm, athlete’s foot), respiratory issues (expectorant, relieves asthma symptoms, congestion, deepens breathing), and supports the nervous system (relaxing, refreshing, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, fear, grief, mental clarity).

Secondary Usage: As a general tonic to assist a digestion(improve, gas, nausea, parasites), improve heart function (strengthen, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, arrhythmia), and assists with excessive perspiration.

Has been reported: Studies have shown benefits with treating lung cancer. Used as an insect repellent. Some people have reported this oil has increased lactation in nursing mothers.

Application: Apply topically, diffuse, and add a drop in water as a general tonic.

Influences: A wonderful fragrance to diffuse to clean the air and have an uplifting effect. Beneficial during meditation and prayer. Has a happy rejuvenating energy that assist to bring feelings of all wellness and everything will be alright.

Medicine Wheel: A Primary West and Secondary North.

Blends Well With: Basil, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Frankincense, Geranium, Ginger, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Orange, Palmarosa, Petitgrain, Rose, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Tangerine, Tea Tree, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang.

Recipes: For insomnia add eight drops each of Litsea and Lavender to six drops of Ylang Ylang Extra. Diffuse or mix with a carrier oil and apply as needed. An uplifting blend mix twelve drops of Litsea with one drop each of Vanilla and Neroli. Mix with a half ounce of carrier oil and apply as desired. For increasing focus add equal parts of Litsea and Peppermint and diffuse, inhale, or apply topically. To assist digestion, add two drops each of Litsea, Peppermint, and Ginger. Rub on stomach.
